Chester County Opportunities Industrialization Center (CCOIC) recently purchased its first van to be used for transporting program participants to workshops, training, and job interviews. The 12-passenger Chevy van was purchased through a state grant sponsored by (now) retired PA State Senator Andrew Dinniman. In addition to offering transport to students, CCOIC is looking to hire one of its own program participants or graduates as driver.
As said by Dinniman, Job training leading to employment opportunities is the important function of Chester County OIC. I am glad that before retiring from the senate I was able to secure a grant for OIC to purchase a much-needed van to transport those, who they serve, to job training and employment.

John Custer joined the OIC GED program on August 10th. Prior to attending our program, John had attended a two-year trade school. In this program, he was assured that he would have a high school diploma when he completed the program. When he graduated the program, he received a certificate that he was told was a “high school diploma”. He shared this with two successive employers. Later when attempting to apply to college, he discovered that the trade school was not accredited to issue a valid high school diploma, so his diploma was not accepted by the college. This brought John to the doors of OIC in search of a GED program. When John went through the intake process on August 10th, he shared his goal of attending DCCC in January to get an associate’s degree in the area of machine and tool/die cutting.

I can’t breathe. I can’t breathe. Mom. Mom.
I can’t breathe.
As a mother myself, these words bring instant panic, fear and reaction. If I saw my son, my brother, my nephew, my cousin voicing these words on news feed over and over again, those instant reactions would ultimately move into raging anger.
That’s what we see in our streets repeated all over this country. Chester County OIC wishes to bring honor to the name of George Floyd and so many like him, who have lost their lives in the struggle of being Black or of color in America.
The County Health Department opens first testing site at Gordon Early Literacy Center! The Center will be the FIRST public site for the County with diagnostic testing
