  • Hi Maryann.,
My name is Kelly Benedict, Group Sales Associate, from People’s Light which is a theater located in Malvern, PA. Since you deal with ESL population at CC OIC, this new production called Mushroom may be relatable to you and the ESL teachers/learners you deal with.

It is the first time we will have a bilingual play occur on our stage in both English and Spanish! The show description is below. It does take place in Kennett Square and it’s a story about migrant mushroom farmers and their perspective of what they deal with on a daily basis with immigration, working life, and family issues.

    MUSHROOM (9/14-10/16)

A locally inspired world premiere play unlike anything we’ve done before

In Kennett Square, “the mushroom capital of the world,” intersecting lives of immigrant families collide when a workplace injury, an unexpected romance, and the increased presence of ICE have far-reaching ramifications for the entire community. From Pulitzer Prize-finalist and Mare of Easttown series regular Eisa Davis, Mushroom is the fourth locally-inspired world premiere developed through our New Play Frontiers program following Project Dawn, Mud Row, and Bayard Rustin Inside Ashland.

Mushroom is performed in both English and Spanish. The play’s dialogue is modeled on the way our community in Chester County naturally moves between these two languages. Every performance includes English supertitles for the parts of the play in Spanish, and Spanish supertitles for the parts of the play in English. You will be able to read these supertitles from every seat in the theatre. Whether you understand English, Spanish, or both, you will understand the language in this play. We hope you will join us for this world premiere based on the stories of our neighbors, friends, and family.

Recommended for ages 16+ for sexual themes and language

For groups of 10 or more, there is a 15% discount that is offered making the price per ticket $37.70pp with a one-time $15 service fee on top of the total.

We also have two access nights when tickets are half the price, making them $23pp.

I look forward to hearing back from you either way. (Joyce Chester is very familiar with our theater too)!

    Sincerely,
    Kelly Benedict
