Henry Urban is retired from a career with the Federal Government. He began working as a volunteer tutor with the Chester County OIC in October 2012. He has worked with several adult learners and has shown remarkable patience and kindness throughout his tenure with our organization.
One of Henry’s first successes was with an 80 year old immigrant from India who was determined to get his GED. Henry worked diligently with the student, encouraging him and clarifying concepts to prepare him for the GED exam. The student passed with flying colors and is very grateful for the assistance he received from Henry.
Henry is currently working with a young man from Liberia who is supporting a family and they are making great progress and enjoying the experience of learning from each other. In addition to his one-on-one tutoring responsibilities, Henry has volunteered to facilitate a small group math tutoring session to help individuals prepare for the GED exam.
CC-OIC is honored to have volunteers like Henry Urban and we take this opportunity to publicly thank him for all he has contributed to the Adult Workforce Literacy Program and to adult education in Chester County.
Karen Jensen has been a volunteer tutor with the Chester County OIC since 2010. Karen has a BA in Math and an MBA Finance, and has helped a number of students through the math portion of the GED. But she has also worked with ESL and ABE students teaching reading and English language skills.
Karen has been exceedingly generous with her time and has demonstrated compassion flexibility and understanding with all of the adult learners who have been fortunate enough to have worked with her.
CC-OIC is honored to have volunteers like Karen and we take this opportunity to publicly thank her for all she has contributed to the Adult Workforce Literacy Program and to adult education in Chester County.
